The scientific community lost one of its most productive, influential and well-loved members when Dr. Anita Roberts died of gastric cancer in 2006. As one of the pioneering leaders in the field of TGF-ß biology, her work catalyzed major advances in understanding its role in the complex biological processes of tissue repair and tumor progression. In addition to being ranked in the top 50 most cited biological scientists in the world and receiving many scientific awards, Dr. Roberts was widely recognized as an outstanding mentor, with a unique ability to foster productive collaborations between scientists and encourage creativity. The Anita Roberts Symposium, “TGF-ß: Discovery and Promise” will bring together leaders in the field of TGF-research to provide an historical perspective to the discovery of TGF-ß, as well as to present and discuss exciting new research suggesting potential therapeutic uses for TGF-ß. A celebratory dinner with remembrances will take place in the evening after the symposium.
